If you write to me by email or through the contact form, I use your email address and message to handle your enquiry and reply. The legal basis is Article 6(1)(b) GDPR for enquiries about working together, or otherwise Article 6(1)(f) GDPR: my legitimate interest in handling incoming enquiries.

My mailbox is provided by Google (Gmail). Google processes mailbox data under its privacy policy, including outside the EEA. I delete correspondence once the enquiry is resolved and no statutory retention duties or specific legal-defence needs remain.

Form messages are delivered through Cloudflare Email Service to that mailbox; they are not stored on the website. The form uses Cloudflare Turnstile to tell people from automated submissions, which sends a verification token and your IP address to Cloudflare, and repeated submissions are limited using the IP address. The form does not save drafts in your browser.

Cloudflare hosts the website. Requests involve processing your IP address, request time, requested address and technical browser/connection information. The legal basis is Article 6(1)(f) GDPR: my legitimate interest in providing an available website and preventing abuse.

Processing by Cloudflare, Inc. and its affiliates may occur outside the EEA. Cloudflare’s data processing agreement provides for EU Standard Contractual Clauses for relevant transfers. See Cloudflare’s privacy policy for its processing of network and security data. You can also ask me about these safeguards.

I do not keep my own logs of page visits. Cloudflare handles technical operational and security data according to its own retention criteria. Email correspondence is deleted as described above.

The site follows your browser’s reduced-motion setting. It also reads a saved motion preference from your browser’s local storage if one is there; the site itself does not save one. Nothing else is stored in your browser. Fonts, scripts and images are served with the website. There are no analytics, no cookies and no embedded third-party content.

The LinkedIn profile and Monocle website are ordinary links, not embedded widgets. Following an external link takes you to that provider’s service.

Subject to the legal conditions, you can request access, correction, deletion, restriction of processing and data portability. You may object to processing based on legitimate interests for reasons relating to your particular situation.

You can complain to a data protection authority, particularly where you live or work. The authority for my establishment is the North Rhine-Westphalia data protection authority (LDI NRW): Postfach 20 04 44, 40102 Düsseldorf, Germany; poststelle@ldi.nrw.de.
